Chief Information Officer

Matt Spessard has served as Chief Information Officer for The Wendy’s Company since February 2024. In this role, he is responsible for all aspects of Wendy's global technology efforts, including Restaurant Technology, Data Management and Analytics, Enterprise Technology, Software Architecture and Engineering, and Information Security.

He’s deeply committed to driving growth across Wendy’s digital channels and improving the customer and crew experience through the strategic implementation of technology solutions. This includes leveraging generative AI to reimagine the drive-thru experience with the launch of the Company’s leading-edge FreshAI platform. 

Matt joined Wendy’s in May 2020 as Vice President, Restaurant Technology, a position that utilized his deep QSR operations and technology experience. He assumed the expanded role of Vice President, Digital and Restaurant Technology in September 2020, and was promoted to Global Chief Technology Officer in August 2022. In this role, he was accountable for establishing the Wendy’s System global technology vision, and leading technological innovation and development to drive continued growth, competitive brand advantage and topline revenue for the Company and franchisees.   

Prior to this, Matt spent six years with Inspire Brands where he served in several roles of increasing accountability, including Vice President of Technology at SONIC. He also previously held various operations and technology leadership roles at YUM! Brands, Church’s Chicken, and Braum's Ice Cream & Dairy Stores.

Having grown up in a small town in Oklahoma, Matt didn’t have a Wendy’s restaurant nearby. After relocating to Oklahoma City, he tried Wendy’s for the first time and became a lifelong fan. His favorite menu item is Spicy Chicken Nuggets. He says he likes them as spicy as he can get them. 

Matt studied Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Oklahoma.
